This summer the term "local food" will find new meaning in a rooftop garden at Pike Place Market. Residents and local seniors are logging volunteer hours to build 1000 square feet of raised plant beds for Pike Place Urban Garden located on the roof of the La Salle building next to the Market’s renowned Maximilien Restaurant.
The new garden will produce over 600 lbs of fresh produce, which is enough to supply 300 adults with their daily dose of vegetables!
In the inaugural season, the garden’s produce will be donated to the Pike Place Food Bank and Senior Center.
The garden currently boasts 18 types of vegetables that will end up on the tables of 100's of low-income families and seniors this summer.
