Let’s get your post-holiday brain working with Market Trivia! Do you recognize this scene from Sleepless in Seattle? It lasted less than two minutes but forever made this Pike Place Market restaurant famous. Can you name the spot? Is it:
A. Maximilien Restaurant
B. The Athenian
C. Matt’s in the Market
D. Lowell’s Restaurant and Bar
If you guessed B. The Athenian, you're right! Still operating today, The Athenian was stared by three Greek brothers in 1909. It was one of the first restaurants in Seattle to be issued a liquor license. Despite changing from the original concept of a bakery and luncheonette to a full-service restaurant, the sign hanging over the door is the original 1909 sign.
If you visit today, look for the small sign at the counter that reads "TOM HANKS SAT HERE. Sleepless in Seattle" at the very spot where the scene was filmed.
