The RE-Team, the PDA’s sustainability committee charged with promoting the values of reduce, reuse and recycle, is now accepting applications for the inaugural Green Star Awards, honoring two Pike Place Market business leaders in sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
With the first annual Green Star Awards, the RE-Team will highlight two businesses in the Market who have demonstrated a commitment to sustainable practices at their individual business. These practices may be related to activities that reduce energy bills, minimize waste, improve water management, use recycled materials, detailed supply chain management to source renewable or sustainable products, reduced impacts on land use, and others. Like the Market itself, the practices used by Market vendors and businesses will be diverse and varied.
Green Star Award
The awards are beautifully hand-crafted objects, made of recycled materials by a dedicated team of Pike Place Market artisans. The names of the Green Star Award winners will be engraved onto their award.
Applications may be submitted as self-nominations or by a second parties with demonstrated knowledge of the nominated individual’s environmental/sustainable practices.
Nominations will be reviewed by a panel representing Market businesses and staff from the RE-Team.
After review of applications, the panel may interview with nominees for additional information.
Applications due on June 1, 2017
Two separate awards will be given. The purpose of creating two separate awards is to ensure recognition of both larger and smaller Market businesses and their commitment to sustainable practices:
Sustainable Business Impact Award – This award will recognize overall impact of sustainable business practices.
Sustainable Business Inspiration Award – This award will recognize the nominee’s demonstrated creativity, leadership and/or dedication as evinced by their sustainable business practices.
Finalists will be contacted before July 1, 2017. Winners will be recognized in person and through the Pike Place Market’s public relations efforts, website and social media.
