The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will soon begin construction on First Avenue for its Center City Connector Streetcar. The Market community is encouraged to attend one of two upcoming informational drop-in sessions at Pike Place Market, hosted by SDOT and project partners. At these public sessions, you have the opportunity to meet the project team, get information and ask questions about what to expect during the construction stages, including utility work impacts, load zone and parking changes. Both meetings are identical and are open house format; there will not be any formal presentations, so you are welcome to come any time during the following sessions. For weekly updates from SDOT about the streetcar project, sign up here. To reach the Center City Connector Streetcar team, call the 24-hour hotline at (206) 400-7578 or email centercitystreetcar@seattle.gov.

Last week, the Market celebrated 110 years as Seattle’s farmers market. What makes Pike Place Market such a special place? We believe it’s the people.

As part of our anniversary celebration, we highlighted various Market characters, each who have their own stories about what Pike Place Market means to them. Follow along as we continue to introduce you to these #PikePlacePeople throughout the year!

This Halloween weekend, a group of past tour guides are coming together to run the Ghost Tours for two nights only: October 28th and October 29th. Tours are 75 minutes long and travel through Pike Place Market at night, ending at Kell's Pub. Stories are rooted in history and showcase the Market as you've never see it before. We are not paranormal investigators, we are not out to prove anything - skeptics and believers are both welcome. We are your guides and hosts for an entertaining Halloween tour in Pike Place Market. Join us for some spooky weekend fun! Tours are at 5:00, 7:00 and 9:00 pm. Ticket holders check in 15 minutes before the tour at Ghost Alley Espresso. 1499 Post Alley, Seattle WA 98101. Come prepared for the weather. Bathroom access is limited at night in the Market. The tour is over 21 because of the final stop, and in case we decide to get a drink midway. Nothing is scripted and tours can change based on who is attending.

MarketFront construction continues upward and is now approaching the Desimone Bridge. For more than a year, Market vendors, residents and community members have watched the process unfold as the former surface parking lot transforms into a new marketplace in keeping with the functions outlined in the City of Seattle’s Market charter. With 30,000 square feet of open public space with new views, a weather-proofed canopy with additional vending space for Daystall tenants, space for food production and on-site brewery, low-income housing, and social services—the MarketFront will truly be part of the Market.
Currently, Sellen Construction workers are completing the installation of “glulams,” the large wooden beams that provide the framework for the entire structure/retail space. The beams are an essential part of the overall design, which reflects the heavy timber beams found throughout the Market today.
