Tacoma native Emily Wood exhibits oil paintings at Lisa Harris Gallery Oct. 2 through Nov. 1. Wood is an established painter known for her deft handling of color, from subtle value shifts to intense hues, creating landscapes that boldly dramatize the region’s varied topography. The exhibition title, To the East, reflects the artist's choice of subject matter—many scenes of Eastern Washington and snowscapes from Oregon to Colorado, as well as a few coastal views.

Wood will be present at the exhibition opening Thursday, October 2 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

This body of work marks a shift towards an even more intense palette for Wood, which she uses to convey the heat and saturated light of the Eastern landscape. The velvety, sculptural hills of the Palouse, along with distinctive scenes of the Winthrop and Wenatchee areas, are defined by painterly brushwork.

Wood's work can be found in the collections of Seattle University's Sullivan Law Center, Merrill Lynch, Seattle Cancer Alliance, UW Medical Center, and Tacoma Art Museum as well as in private collections on the East and West Coasts.
