Holidays Handled: Easy Appetizers

Holiday Jeweled Salad

If you're assigned salad for a dinner party, try this festive version with a few knock-out holiday ingredients from the Market's produce stalls. Takes 5 minutes to assemble and toss.

Toss leaves of 1 head of butter lettuce, 2 peeled and sectioned tangerines, seeds of 1 pomegranate and fresh herbs (such as chives, with a few chive blossoms if possible). Dress with lemon vinaigrette. To make your own: Whisk together ¾ cup olive oil to ¼ cup fresh lemon juice, 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard, salt and pepper to taste. (You will need about one-third of this for the salad; reserve the rest for other uses.)

Where to shop:

Highstalls for produce. Look for tangerines, satsumas (which are a Japanese tangerine), or other citrus depending on what's in season.

Sotto Voce for lemon garlic olive oil, great for making your own vinaigrette.
