Pike Market Child Care & Preschool
Children ages 18 months to 5 years attend full-day or part-time child care in a nurturing, educational environment at the Pike Market Child Care & Preschool. Founded in 1982 on the principle that all children deserve access to high quality early education, the Preschool was one of the first programs in downtown Seattle to make child care available to families earning a low income. Annually, the Preschool serves 90-100 families with children ages 18 months to 5 years, 70% receive tuition assistance.
The Preschool incorporates reading and math readiness, encourages creative and individual expression, and helps build self-esteem and problem-solving skills. Children also receive breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks, up to 70% of their daily nutritional needs. In addition, the Preschool employs a child and family support professional to help families when they need it most.
Children at the Preschool receive excellent care and build the social and learning skills necessary to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Families in the program have the opportunity to work, job search or go to school confident, knowing their children are safe and nurtured.
