Know Before You Go!
Visitor Vehicle Traffic Currently Limited on Pike Place
Pike Place Market, in partnership with Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) and other key city stakeholders, has launched a limited vehicle access pilot on Pike Place during select daytime hours.
During this time, we will be working to preserve essential street functions for our business and residential community while reducing congestion during ongoing construction projects on the street.
This page serves to inform our visitors on project updates, answer commonly asked questions, and provide guidance on alternate routes during this critical infrastructure work.
We appreciate your patience and continued support of our businesses during this time as we work with city partners to preserve our historic Market.

Frequently Asked Questions (7)
What's happening on the street?
The Pike Place Market PDA, in collaboration with SDOT, is piloting a limited-vehicle access zone on Pike Place due to construction taking place along the street.
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is currently completing road restoration on Stewart St following emergency sewer work. Additionally, contractors are completing a deck restoration project at Copacabana that is restricting sidewalk access.
Due to the sidewalk closures and narrow vehicle pass-through lane adjacent to work areas on Pike Place, we are limiting vehicle access during daytime business hours.
How long is this taking place?
The limited access zone on Pike Place will run at least through the duration of the restoration work on Stewart St. The project is estimated to be completed near the end of October. During this time the Pike Place Market PDA is working to create a comprehensive street management plan to extend past the construction period.
Is this a full street closure of Pike Place?
The limited vehicle access pilot is not a full street closure, but a temporary strategy to reduce non-essential traffic on Pike Place during construction. With traffic assistance from SDOT, the Market will be dedicating Pike Place to commercial loading and pickup during regular business hours. Our goal is a “test and learn” approach, intended to improve street operations and inform long-term planning.
How is traffic being controlled on Pike Place?
Starting at 10am daily, an SDOT flagger will be posted at the corner of 1st Ave and Pike St to facilitate authorized entry to Pike Place. Entry traffic will be limited to marked delivery vehicles, Market businesses with dash pass access, customer curbside pickup, ADA, and emergency vehicles. Authorized vehicles will be limited to southbound entry, no left turns at 1st Ave and Pike St.
Northbound Delivery Turnaround Route
For delivery vehicles and pickups heading northbound who need to turn around, take a right at Virginia St and again at 2nd Ave, then left at Stewart St to proceed back to southbound entry on 1st Ave.
Will there be parking available on Pike Place?
Between 6am-6pm daily, there will be no long-term parking on both sides of Pike Place from Pike St to Virginia St, exempting ADA-permitted vehicles. See “Where do I go to park?” for parking guidance.
After 6pm, customers are welcome to park along Pike Place to patron shows and dine at our Market restaurants open throughout the evening. No overnight parking is permitted 2am-6am.
